What Is Shaolin-Do?
 |
Grandmaster Sin Kwang Thé |
We use the term
kung fu today to refer to the style of martial arts developed in China hundreds of years ago. Kung fu actually translates from Chinese as 'work' or 'skill'. So, in reality, the term
kung fu can be applied in just about anything that we do, such as our careers, schoolwork, etc. The term
kung fu also reminds some of us of the old television show, where we saw the main character as a youth in the temple, ever dilligent in his training with his masters, not only physically but mentally as well. For most of us, that is about the only images we can relate to how the monks in the Shaolin temples actually trained.
We consider ourselves exceptionally fortunate to have Grandmaster Sin Kwang Thé as our great teacher... our Grandmaster. His wealth of knowledge, given to him by his teacher Ie Chang Ming, has done for us what it has done for the monks -- it has strengthened us physically and mentally.
No, we are not monks; we are everyday people living everyday lives. When we come together to train, we aspire to put forth every amount of effort into our training... to be dilligent just as the monks. To give one's all is to truly learn. This is Shaolin-Do -- 'the way of Shaolin'.
